« Dans ma proposition pour le jardin de La Colle Noire, je m’inspire profondément de la relation de Christian Dior avec son souvenir d’enfance. Que ce soit au travers d’éléments biographiques, de récits mythologiques, ou de codes empruntés à la culture populaire avec laquelle j’ai pu grandir, je tente de nous emmener sur une réflexion de récits fragmentés et rhizomatiques. Soulignant ainsi la manière dont ces points de rencontre, mais également de ruptures, peuvent reconstruire nos rapports au monde.»

Parfois disposés en amas ou bien seuls sur les restanques, les moulages en forme d’immenses coquillages de Mehdi Görbüz sont pensés pour ponctuer l’espace du jardin de La Colle Noire comme autant d’éléments organiques et poétiques organisés en un récit éclaté. Réalisées sur le modèle des anciennes piscines plastiques pour enfants, ces grandes coquilles Saint-Jacques aux allures botticelliennes dialoguent avec le jardin de Christian Dior, envisagé ici comme un lieu de mémoire inspirant, « comme un souvenir qui se fossilise, se cristallise. Ce sont des artefacts chargés de mémoire, des témoins muets d’une époque révolue, mais toujours vivante dans notre imaginaire. »


Dans ce décor naturel, ses coquillages se font réminiscences essentielles évoquant tout à la fois le souvenir d’enfance de l’artiste comme la mémoire d’une mer millénaire qui aurait laissé là son empreinte sur les hauteurs de Montauroux. Originellement légères et ludiques, les coquilles ont été transformées en pièces denses et lourdes, mais cependant éphémères car destinées à lentement se désagréger jusqu’à se fondre avec les années dans l’environnement. Réalisées en chaux issue de la cuisson de roches calcaires à haute température, la composition de ces sculptures fait écho au sous-sol calcaire du terrain alors que d’autres, élaborées pour quelques unes en pierre de sel, ont été conçues pour fournir un apport minéral bénéfique au troupeau de moutons qui assure l’éco-pâturage des lieux. 


Mehdi Görbüz commente une œuvre traversée de matières organiques comme de récits : « ces relations entre le calcaire, la matérialité des coquillages ainsi que le lien historique et poétique fait entre la fossilisation et la mer qui s’est retirée, laissent des bribes de souvenirs et traversent le projet. »

« Inspiré par le concept de jardin utopique, Mehdi Görbüz déploie une installation poétique en dialogue avec les
corps. L’artiste assemble des objets récupérés et tisse des liens sémantiques entre les images. Provenant d’archives
personnelles, les projections vidéo forment autant de récits en perpétuelle construction et déconstruction. Ses
pensées sont consignées dans des recueils composés de visuels issus d’internet et de poèmes qu’il écrit et emprunte.
Pour témoigner des pressions politiques sur les minorités, l’artiste revisite le mythe de Shahmeran, une divinité
kurde mi-serpent mi-humaine symbolisant la résistance au patriarcat. Sur une plaque en verre, il décompose puis
transfère l’image d’une célèbre danseuse turque diffusée dans une émission de divertissement des années 2000.

					
La danse, omniprésente dans sa vie comme dans son œuvre, se traduit par un acte de célébration et de contes-
tation. Au cœur de l’exposition, il dépose des voitures miniatures en béton pigmenté sur des carreaux imitant du
marbre, où deux vidéos représentent un mariage familial et son frère dansant. Certains objets jouent sur l’illusion
du luxe, comme le logo Mercedes dont l’aspect est altéré. Sur le sol, le sel provenant de larmes évaporées cristallise
la joie collective de ses souvenirs d’enfance. Dans une vidéo filmée au Kurdistan turc, l’artiste suit sa famille vers
le tombeau d’un guerrier, un lieu de culte abritant un arbre à souhaits et où se cache un trésor que beaucoup ont
tenté de découvrir. En mêlant les images d’archives et d’icônes populaire, Mehdi Görbüz tisse des connections rizo-
matiques qui résonnent en chacun de nous.»

“ L’installation de Mehdi Görbüz se traverse comme un espace en mouvement, structuré par la constellation du Sagittaire, symbole d’hybridation et de transformation, dont les lignes se déploient de manière serpentinale. À partir de messages WhatsApp échangés avec sa famille, de bijoux porte-bonheur et de gestes quotidiens, il met en circulation des formes d’attachement et de savoirs transmis en dehors des cadres dominants. Les éléments se relient selon une organisation rhizomatique où mémoire diasporique, imaginaire queer et culture populaire se rencontrent.La présence de Şahmaran éclaire cette démarche. Déesse-serpent anatolienne mise à mort pour son savoir, elle se transforme pour se protéger et renverse le roi. Sa mue devient une stratégie : transformer pour continuer d’exister.L’installation affirme ainsi que ce qui ne peut être conservé peut survivre autrement. Le désordre devient une méthode héritée de celles et ceux qui n’ont jamais eu accès aux formes légitimes de transmission. « À travers différentes approches telles que la sculpture, la vidéo, la photographie et le transfert, Mehdi Görbüz explore le dialogue entre ces médiums et tisse des liens sémantiques entre les images. À partir de ces rencontres, il crée des formes hybrides qui mêlent culture populaire et spiritualité. Les archives, qu’elles soient photographiques ou vidéo, occupent une place centrale dans son travail et c’est à partir de son récit personnel que l’artiste parvient à atteindre des préoccupations plus collectives. Ainsi, les GIF envoyés par sa grand-mère par Whats App (_For You_), au vocabulaire visuel (fleur, papillon, étoile, cœur…) et textuel (« bonne nuit&#38;nbsp;», «&#38;nbsp;I miss you&#38;nbsp;», «&#38;nbsp;Je t’aime&#38;nbsp;»…) familier, sont transférés sur des plaques d’acier accordant à ces ruines archéologiques d’Internet une historicité et une nouvelle matérialité. La rouille qui vient se former par l’oxydation et la disparition progressive de l’image soulignent un effacement plus global face auquel l’artiste résiste en conservant un lien numérique fort avec celles et ceux qui vivent loin. Réinvestissant un goût pour l’ornementation et l’exagération, héritage de l’esthétique _camp_, l’œuvre de Mehdi Görbüz est parsemée de strass, de _charms_, de papillons brillants, et de poèmes écrits sur des perles et qui, en plus d’être en marge de l’esthétique dominante, agissent pour l’artiste comme des talismans.&#38;nbsp;»&#38;nbsp;Juliette Hage

Penser la rhétorique du rideau*, c’est concevoir une alternative au coming out comme moment unique, irréversible et public de révélation de soi. Plutôt que d’imposer cette transparence totale, le rideau permet un équilibre entre ce qui se montre et ce qui demeure privé. Il définit un espace de négociation et de maîtrise de son propre discours, où chaque personne choisit ce qu’elle dévoile, à qui, à quel moment et dans quel contexte.  

L’exploration collective de ces récits a été amorcée à l’automne 2024 par la commissaire d’exposition Inès Geoffroy avec les artistes Meryam Benbachir, Emma Bert Lazli, Reda El Toufaili Kanaan, Mehdi Görbüz, Amine Habki et Sido Lansari, lors d’une journée de performances et de lectures autour de leurs œuvres. Invitée par l’équipe de l’ICI à porter plus loin ces voix dissidentes, elle propose à chaque artiste de les faire résonner dans une installation personnelle afin de prolonger l’élan collectif né de leur première collaboration. Les espaces de création se font aussi refuge, où la notion de « famille choisie&#38;nbsp;» rejoint celle de «&#38;nbsp;famille artistique&#38;nbsp;». Exprimant d’autres manières d’être au(x) monde(s), ils et elles cherchent à préserver des archives fragiles et revendiquent le droit à la complexité.

« Shamaran est une déesse-serpent. Elle a un amant, mais il finit par la trahir. Elle,

pourtant, est consciente de cette trahison et se sacrifie d’une certaine manière pour

lui. Mais on n’est pas dans une position victimaire ou doloriste. Elle reste dans la ruse,

dans une posture de puissance. Elle pardonne son amant, mais elle utilise aussi sa

ruse pour, au final, tuer le patriarche responsable de sa perte. C’est pour cela qu’elle

est devenue une icône queer au Moyen-Orient, en Turquie, et que les communautés

se sont réapproprié son image pour parler de lutte et de résilience.

Je la vois tel cette gardienne de ce jardin de résistance.»

“ A travers l’installation, la sculpture, la vidéo et l’écriture poétique, Mehdi Görbüz (1997)
s’intéresse aux cultures queer, pop et y2k. Esthétique glamour, références à Internet et
archives familiales s’entremêlent dans ses œuvres. Il y réinvestit des symboles qui
cristallisent les fantasmes, tels que les voitures, les palmiers ou encore les piscines, dans
une perspective critique de l’orientalisme.

					
Ici, Mehdi Görbüz s’empare de la Mercedes, marque de voiture emblématique associée
dans la culture populaire au luxe et à un idéal de réussite sociale, de ce fait
particulièrement prisée par certaines diasporas. Ici séparé de tout contexte et suspendu,
le logo chromé devient bijou précieux, talisman. La bande sonore diffuse de la musique,
comme une réminiscence des trajets en voiture effectués dans l’enfance.”&#38;nbsp;

“ Through installation, sculpture, video and poetic writing, Mehdi Görbüz (1997) is interested in
queer, pop and y2k cultures. Glamorous aesthetics, references to the Internet and family archives
intermingle in his work. He reinvests symbols that crystallise fantasies, such as cars, palm trees
and swimming pools, in a critical take on orientalism.

					
Here, Mehdi Görbüz seizes on the Mercedes, an emblematic car brand associated in popular
culture with luxury and an ideal of social success, and therefore particularly prized by certain
diasporas. Here, separated from any context and suspended, the chrome logo becomes a precious
jewel, a talisman. The soundtrack plays music, reminiscent of childhood car journeys.“
